New in the field of renovation and strengthening with carbon reinforced concrete: The DIBt has published the "Principles for proof of suitability for the execution of strengthening work on concrete components with carbon reinforced concrete in accordance with the valid general construction technique permit"!
The principles regulate the process by which contractors can have their suitability toexecute the CARBOrefit® procedure certified by the building authority. The proof of suitability is integrated in a comprehensive testing, monitoring and certification system (PÜZ system), which is illustrated in the following diagram:
The aim of the proof of suitability is to acquire extensive knowledge and relevant skills in the field of concrete strengthening with carbon reinforced concrete. This ensures a consistently high quality of CARBOrefit® strengthening measures.
To obtain the proof of suitability, two steps are outlined in the document issued by the DIBt:
The theoretical training is a one-day course and can be held either as an in-house event or at another location upon agreement. The training provides information on the national technical approval / general construction technique permit CARBOrefit®, the material properties and specific characteristics of carbon reinforced concrete and its individual components, the structure of carbon reinforced concrete strengthening layers, the storage of material components, as well as the carbon reinforced concrete specific preparation and finishing work. The knowledge is then assessed in a half-hour multiple-choice test.
Additionally, a practical training can be organised on a voluntary basis in preparation for the demonstration test. This is also a one-day course, during which the practical implementation of the strengthening procedure, the material-specific knowledge, the production of small-scale test specimens from carbon reinforced concrete, and the preparation and execution of the strengthening with carbon reinforced concrete are demonstrated.
The qualification process concludes with a demonstration test of the practical execution and an assessment of the testing and measuring devices, tools, and mixing equipment in order to evaluate the quality of the performed strengthening work. More detailed information on the process for obtaining the CARBOrefit® proof of suitability can be found in the attached document.
Upon successful participation and completion of the required examinations, the contracting firms receive the certificate of suitability from the surveillance organisation Gemeinschaft für Überwachung im Bauwesen (GÜB). They can then carry out projects using the CARBOrefit® procedure in compliance with the German building regulations. The projects must be listed and monitored through internal and external quality control. All certified companies and their contact details are included in a list published on the CARBOrefit® website in the download section.
Together with the certification body, the CARBOrefit® consortium offers corresponding theoretical and practical training courses and supports you through the certification process.
