The Well chamber in Ludwigsburg, built in 1965, has played an important role in the regional water supply for decades. After many years of operation, however, signs of ageing had become evident: chloride exposure had affected the concrete components, surface cracks had formed, and durability was no longer ensured. In order to maintain the continued use of the facility, a comprehensive rehabilitation was carried out in 2023.

The CARBOrefit® method was selected for the strengthening works, applying a reinforcement layer of only around 10 mm thickness together with a single layer of carbon reinforcement. This solution made it possible to sustainably strengthen the existing concrete surfaces, bridge cracks, and improve the load-bearing capacity — without extensive intervention in the structure. The low material requirement proved particularly advantageous, enabling an economical and technically effective implementation even under restricted spatial conditions and limited accessibility.

Thanks to the slender application and precise execution, the usable space of the Brunnenstube was largely retained while its structural integrity was secured for the years to come.
