Application in exterior area
Special constructional conditions
Special static requirementsToday, the historic building is used as an international research station, but decades of exposure and its extreme location had left clear traces. The structure has been subjected to harsh weather conditions at high altitude, and over the years the building had inevitably suffered damage. Between August 2022 and September 2023, the structure underwent comprehensive rehabilitation. A 16 mm thin layer of CRC with three layers of carbon reinforcement was applied. This measure served both to seal the surface and to provide structural strengthening of the existing shotcrete rock support, ensuring the long-term stability of the structure.
The work posed particular logistical and technical challenges: the site could only be reached via complex transport routes, and the strongly fluctuating and sometimes extreme weather conditions made planning difficult. This is where the CARBOrefit® method demonstrated its advantages. The use of CRC significantly reduced the required material volume, which facilitated transportation and shortened the construction time. Thanks to this innovative strengthening solution, the Schneefernerhaus could be sustainably preserved and secured for its continued use as an important research location in its unique high-altitude environment.
