Special constructional conditions
Monumental preservationThe building of the University of Applied Sciences in Schweinfurt dates back to the 1960s and is a characteristic example of the construction methods of that period. After decades of use, structural deficiencies had become apparent which required urgent remediation in order to ensure long-term safety and functionality. As part of the rehabilitation in autumn 2006, the tensile reinforcement in the upper zone was strengthened. A 15 mm thin CRC layer with three layers of carbon reinforcement was applied, specifically tailored to the requirements of the existing load-bearing structure. This measure made it possible to sustainably remedy the structural deficiencies and increase the load-bearing reserves without the need for major interventions or extensive additional measures. Special requirements arose from the low component thickness of the shell structure: with a thickness of only 8 cm, the structural strengthening had to be implemented without introducing significant additional loads. The use of the CRC strengthening system successfully addressed this challenge, preserving the characteristic construction while meeting today’s requirements for load-bearing capacity and durability.
The rehabilitation of the University of Applied Sciences Schweinfurt was one of the first CRC strengthening projects in Germany and laid the foundation for more than 20 years of successful practical application.
